Sunday Gatherings

Click here for our upcoming Sunday schedule

The anchor of our community-building offerings is our Sunday gathering, held on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month (with some exceptions, so check the schedule). We are currently making music at Malcolm X Elementary from 9:30-11:30am.

Our Sunday Schedule:

  • 9:30: informal potluck breakfast— bring a healthy breakfast item for yourself, your family and a little extra to share;
  • 10:15: Hi Good Morning— With a full stomach and surrounded by friends, we’ll start singing right on time;
  • 11:30: announcements and clean-up— looking for housing? Selling a car? Need childcare? Have a life event you want to share? This is a time to share community events with your friends; After a good hour and 15 minutes of music-making, those who want to keep socializing can head out to the park across the street. Bring a sack lunch if you’d like and keep singing if you’re so inspired!

EBCMP @ Prescott-Joseph Pre-Preschool

The Prescott-Joseph Pre-Preschool is a community of play where adults and children grow together everyday. Children develop their cognitive, social, emotional, and motor skills through rich child-centered, play-based activities. In a supportive community of other West Oakland families with young children, adults bond with their children through play, grow their understanding of child development, and have access critical tools/resources for their families. This free program is offered Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30-11:30. Play, Learn, Grow Together!

EBCMP supports the program’s goals by bringing community-focused high-quality music instruction into the lives of West Oakland families. Adults and children singing together is a powerful and joyful means of growing, learning and bonding.

Morning Sing in Berkeley Elementary Schools

Started as a volunteer program at Malcolm X and LeConte Elementary Schools in Berkeley, the Morning Sing is a way to bring a mixed-age activity to our schools, allow participation by parents, faculty and staff, and create community through singing and movement. Thanks to a generous grant from In Dulci Jubilo, we are able to bring our monthly Morning Sing to Washington Elementary as well.

Ensemble Connection

Ensemble Connection is a community project to inspire “former” musicians to pick up their instruments again and connect with other like-minded musicians to rekindle their passion for music.

If you have at least 3-5 years of musical training at an intermediate to advanced level (even if you’re a little rusty now) and you want to meet once a month with other musicians in a small group setting to practice, sightread, and play music, send an email to ensembleconnection@ebcmp.org This project is aimed at time-challenged adults, especially parents. We can help coordinate child care to support ensemble playing time.

House Parties

EBCMP facilitates house parties, where a family in the community opens their home to potluck and informal singing. Third Saturday of each month, 5-8pm. To find out about the next house party, send an email to houseparty@ebcmp.org.

A Season of Song

To encourage and empower people to sing in and with their communities during the winter holidays, we’ve created the A Season of Song campaign, using social media to connect people together. Find out more at aseasonofsong.org.
